Brandan

BRANDAN REYNOLDS was born in Cape Town on July 4th, 1970. He studied fine art there at Michaelis Scool of Fine Art in 1988, and then at the Ruth Prowse Art School in Woodstock where he was encouraged to pursue a natural talent as a cartoonist.

During stints in the design and advertising industries he would submit weekly cartoons to the 'Cape Argus' from 1995, and in 1997 the paper awarded him a permanent weekly slot (while they syndicated Zapiro's Sowetan cartoons the other four days). That same year Brandan also became Personal Finance's full-time illustrator and graphic artist.

In 2000 Brandan and his wife Rose-Anne relocated to the USA for two years; where he became the Atlanta Journal Constitution's graphic artist and produced cover illustrations for a fringe publication named 'Creative Loafing'.

On their return to South Africa in 2002 Brandan was snapped up by 'Business Day' to be their daily editorial cartoonist.

Brandan's graphic design background gave him the tools to become a pioneer of digital rendering amongst cartoonists. His unique style and quirky devices have made him one of South Africa's most original and prolific editorial cartoonists, providing regular cartoons for Business Day (since October 2002), Rapport, The Weekend Argus and until it's recent demise - The Weekender. His work features in the Best of 2009 collection 'DON'T JOKE!', and 2010's collection 'JUST FOR KICKS!'.

Brandan, Rose-Anne and their children Kai and Ella live in Cape Town.
