Treknet, the newspaper cartoon strip about the adventures of two fishermen Boet and John, has blossomed from a weekly strip in a local rag to a nationally syndicated daily strip now appearing in 22 publications extending to Namibia and all the way to Sweden.

"Drawing on Madiba" is a professionally curated exhibition of cartoons by Jonathan Shapiro (Zapiro) currently on show at the Iziko Slave Lodge complimenting the greater exhibition entitled "Mandela - Leader, Comrade, Negotiator, Prisoner, Statesman" at the same venue.

Twenty years ago when Nelson Mandela walked free, the world's cartoonists waited with bated breath and pens poised wondering what he would look like.
It had been 27 years since their reference photographs were taken, and his image had been banned by the apartheid government since. They also wondered what line his politics would take.
