SECOND THOUGHTS? Zapiro refuses to look at the 20th anniversary of Nelson Mandela’s release through rose-tinted spectacles. He depicts Mandela peering around his cell door in 1990 and being confronted by a noisy crowd of protestors representing a less than perfect future: 2010, our present. Recognisable politicians and ordinary people stand about under banners highlighting some of our current political problems: corruption and greed, presidential sex scandals, the internal power struggles of Cope and lack of service delivery.
